Complete Post-Hair Transplant Care Guide

Congratulations on your hair transplant! Your journey to fuller hair starts now, and how you care for your scalp will significantly impact your final results. Below is a full, medically supported guide on what to do, what to avoid, and how to monitor your recovery for the best outcome.

🛏️ 1. Sleeping Position Swelling Prevention

Duration: First 7–10 days

Sleep on your back, keeping your head elevated using 2 pillows or a U-shaped neck pillow.

Avoid sleeping on your sides or face to prevent swelling, bleeding, or pressure on grafts.

Do not bend your head downward when standing or sitting.

Use cold compresses on the forehead (never the scalp) to reduce puffiness.

💧 2. Hair Washing Instructions

Start: 48–72 hours after surgery

Washing is essential for hygiene, comfort, and scab removal. Follow this exact method:

Days 3–10: Gentle wash

Apply the provided foam to the scalp. Leave it for 20–30 minutes.

Rinse gently with low-pressure lukewarm water.

Lather medical shampoo in your hands, then tap foam onto the scalp without rubbing.

Rinse completely without touching the grafts.

Days 11–15+: Controlled exfoliation

After softening with foam, gently massage in circles using fingertips during shampoo to loosen scabs.

Continue washing once daily until all dried blood and skin are gone (usually takes 10–15 days).

IMPORTANT:

Share daily photos of your scalp after each wash with your Safemedigo coordinator until the washing phase is complete.

This helps track healing and ensures your care is on the right path.

☀️ 3. Sunlight Exposure

Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 30 days.

After 15 days, use a light, breathable hat outdoors.

No sunbathing, tanning, or direct UV exposure for the first month.

🧢 4. Hats and Head Coverings

Do not wear any hat, helmet, or head cover for the first 10–15 days.

After day 15, you may wear a loose-fitting, soft cotton cap that does not compress the scalp.

🏋️ 5. Sports and Exercise

Days 1–10: Total rest. No physical activity or sweating.

Days 11–21: You may begin light walking only.

After 3–4 weeks: Return to gym gradually. Avoid heavy sweating, headbands, or helmets.

Contact sports (football, boxing, etc.) should be avoided for at least 2–3 months.

🏊 6. Swimming and Water Exposure

Avoid all swimming (sea, pool, hot tubs, steam rooms) for at least 30 days.

Chlorine and salt water may cause irritation, infection, or graft rejection.

✂️ 7. Hair Trimming and Styling

Do not shave your hair using machines or razors for at least 3 months.

If trimming is needed, use only scissors (makas) to avoid disturbing the grafts.

Do not dye, straighten, or chemically treat your hair for at least 6 weeks.

🚫 8. Avoid Applying Non-Medical Solutions

Avoid using non-prescribed oils, sprays, serums, or herbal mixtures for at least 6 months unless approved by the clinic.

Unverified products may cause allergic reactions, folliculitis, or graft loss.

🔍 9. Watch Out for Normal vs. Warning Signs

Normal: Itching, redness, scab formation, and temporary hair loss (shock loss) are common.

Abnormal: Excessive bleeding, pus, persistent severe pain, or visible graft displacement—report these immediately.
